What is Murphopoly?
TRANSCRIPT
Hi, welcome to uh, a special pixel parsley. So, yesterday I was in this room. trying to think of ideas for videos, for content. And then I saw it. I saw it. It's something that I made. A long time ago. Maybe... 15 years ago. Um... So back in the day, I had a group of friends. Paulo, Chris, Gavin... And I put myself, and there was also another guy named Murph. His last name was Murphy, well, called him Murph. Um, So we grew up in high school together. And we continued our friendships after high school. And, um, Murph was the first one to kind of just go off on his own, kind of, for whatever reason, whoever his reasons were, but we were, especially, Mia was very, um, crusty about it. Um, didn't understand why they didn't understand why or the reasons. They've really given a clear answer about it. And I felt jilted as a friend. So that kind of stuck with me. I can't speak for my other friends at the time, but for me, I felt especially jilty, 'cause... we, uh... we grew up in high school. We grew up together, you know... We were close friends. Okay? I'm Italian. He's... Irish Scottish. Camera, which, which of his parents arrive, his Scottish, but they're both one of his, one mother, father, Irish and Scottish. So we made a good camaraderie. back and forth for years. We used to our favourite show, used to be Red Dwarf, which I have seasons from one to 8 on DVD. as well as on iTunes. Um, one fond memory we had is when we, on a spur of the moment, we drove up to Montreal to watch the, I think this was in '99. So, the form of the one Grand Prix. Um, and we just flew up, you know, you don't, you sure, you, you have to book in it like a year, months in advance. We just showed up. And we managed to find, Once we got to the track, we didn't have a place to stay, so we had to travel outside the just outside of Montreal, and we found a hotel room. And, uh, it said, what's on TV, and it was read to work, our favourite show. And he, he like, he grew up in British comedy, so he introduced me to British comedy. Fred Dwarf was one of them. So... I find memories of Murph. You know, but, uh, we're strange. We're strangers now. I don't even know where he lives. I don't know what's going on in his life. I know he's married, he's got kids. I don't know if he's still married. I don't know what's going on with him. Also, my other friends, uh, obviously much, this happened a few years ago, three, two, 3 years ago. Split ways. So, around 2005, I'm jumping back forth, in 2005, um, I was in between jobs. I just landed a gig at the bank. For a contract work, um... for someone who was on material leave. And then that was coming up, and then I managed to find another gig within the bag, another contract. But I had a month. I had a month in between jobs, 'cause this one would end, then a month would pass, and I start the new job. So I'm at home. And I was at, um, at friend Gavin's house, was, um, a barbeque. My friend, Paulo, and I were talking, and we started reminiscing about Murph. And then Paula out of nowhere. It says, There should be a merphopoly. So if you don't monopoly, you know, there's different plays, I'm around. Merphopoly, and I just started laughing because, like, I know what I have to do now for the next month. It was like the perfect outlet. The perfect outlet for me. to spend that next month creating Merphopolis. So I'm gonna demonstrate this for you now to show that it's real. And maybe what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna keep this video kind of short. And then if you're interested, part B of this video is gonna be a separate video below. I'm gonna take my time, show all the pieces, and explain all the stories behind all the different pieces of stuff. So, one second. Perfapui. So basically, I took Monopoly, and I tailored it around my friend, Murph. So everything on here... is Taylor, even though it looks like Monopoly. It's actually more popular. So um... I don't even know where to begin. You have to know the guy. But basically, everything, every single thing, every nook and cranny I knew about, Murph, I put it into this game. Now, you look at this, I used to, I did it all in crawl drawing. Crawdra was my thing back in the day for my illustrations. Um, So I still have all the working files, but I know way to load them. So this is all I have left of it. So... I see you, you know, to, like... Okay, this is real deal. And the best part is, at the end of the month, me, Chris, Paulo, and Gavin, we all played it. The weekend, before I started work, the whole month it took me. I watched this. Watch, who? That's this. I wanted to make I wanted to make the box. I made almost everything, but I'm using a chocolate box. Okay? So I'm gonna open this up. I gonna point this down. Okay. So, the only thing I didn't make was the plane pieces, which I thought about doing, the houses, hotels, and the dice, but I made everything else, even the money. So let me just see if I can... That's where Rosie goes. Okay, so for example... I made the money. See, provided detail into it. You know, I put out... It's my own design. I, you know, I looked it for inspiration off the original game. was... And it was a oops. You know, I used Kinko's. Uh, I had these little printer, a lot of stuff was printed front to back, which was difficult on a home printer. I'll show you the same, where's the $500 bill? Ariel. Right? So I really snowballed. really snowballed. And I'm the type of person that I'm just gonna, I'm gonna do this shit. You give me an idea. But I careful what you say around me. Be careful, and here, so instead of, you have choice... and people box, sort of plays on... on, um... on, uh, what? I forget what it is, Chance, and community chest. So that was my. That was my play on that. And I also made all the property cards. Front and back. So with the alignment. So you roll there. So it plays exactly like Monopoly. It plays exactly like Monopoly. So, um, if you're interested, stay tuned for part two. So, all the, all these cards are based off of memories I've had of him. Well, let me... So, every equivalent of chance and community chest, I have to think of a memory, a funny memory of Murph. I illustrated them all. And I put them on these cards. So, it was hilarious when we played. When we played, Aaron was like, wondering what's gonna come up, right? Because it's, I mean, all laughed. Oh, man. Yeah, those were different times. Glad I still have this. Anyways, um, flip the part 2, and I'm gonna go through each and every one of these, because there are all the illustrations. I'll explain each one. Okay? See you later.

Okay, here's part two. So I just mixed them all together. Right? I just mix them all together. It's all about the memories, right? So it doesn't really matter what how they come from. But, um, so here we go. So, this can be kept until needed or sold. Get out of jail free cards. it's just Murphy. was kind of a portly guy. It's kind of like a, not athletic, although he did play football. So that gives you a sense of... the style of, uh, that I, how I portrayed him. Murph takes an advance on that, a retreat to the nearest dealership, paying over twice the rental to which he is otherwise entitled. If dealer is unknown, you may buy it from the bank. So, You like this girl named Lana. So, it, uh, that's all that's referencing. Um, so. So, um, that's supposed to be him and that's a Coca-Cola can there. Burfen Stahl's faulty pipes. For each house paid $25 for each hotel, pay 100. I, um, it's got the, the guy was, uh, addicted to coke. This one I just made up, 'cause it was funny. Merce College roommate is very curious about his body. Mr. next turn. He's never seen this, by the way. I told him about it the last time I saw him, which was a long time ago. Murph finds out that the refills are not free paid for it. This is actually based off my friend, Chris. 'Cause he was known to do this, where he would order stuff that was... He found out that the juice was cheaper, and pop. So he ordered juice, and then he found out there's no free refills available. And it's like, what? More Thai coke, please. So I just, um, I retrofitted that, uh, that memory with Murph. Birth wins a week's supply of coke advanced in Notre Dame. So, again, the Coke theme. Mind you, so there's also based off of what the original card said. So. I had to adapt this, so this was a good one. Mrs. Murphy, you know, drunken, Mr. Murphy in a drunken fury, mistakes James for a squirrel, advanced Coca Cola. Foker. So there was a story of when, um, I wasn't there, but Gavin and, uh, Murph. Uh, we're at we're at Murph's house. And Gavin, out of pure habit, just locked the door. So they were in the basement. Oh, no, I'm switching up stories. This isn't not what happened. This is a different story. So, Squirrels happen to get Into the basement. And so, Murr's dead, I don't remember his name. Got a hurling stick. I went downstairs, started clapping this shit. His father, fucker, showing me teeth. Just hit a club with the shit out of these squirrels. Nobody's done, he comes back upstairs. All right, must fag him, right? His 1st name doesn't call him Murph because it's his last name, too. So all right, bag him. So I had to go get the dead squirrels. throw them, put them in a garbage bag and throw them out. Oh, fuck, I love, I love hearing about his dad. It's fucking hilarious. Murph drops bar on groin while attempting to impress Mr. Lyons. Mr. next turn. So, Mr. Lyons was the football coach. high school football coach, head coach. And Murph never made it on the, or he played 1st year, 2nd year, I can't remember. But Mr. Lions didn't like Coach Lions didn't like Murph and Murph didn't like Coach Lions. So, uh, This never really happened. But it's just funny. It was just playing up to that friction between the two. Murph number, uh, number was one for working out. So that's why I drew that. Murphy 10s, multiple academic institutions only to end up in nearest utility. If I'm known, you may buy from it, from the bank, if owned, roll dice, roll dice, and pay owner ten times the amount thrown. So, his father always said that the university was a waste of time because you'd always end up working construction. And that truck there is, uh, used to call it Betsy. I can't remember what it was, a white truck. Um... Heater barrel worked in it. I was freezing my ass off in the winter in that truck. So that's just him. With his diploma, but he's... I don't know, I can't remember what I was going. Those were supposed to be blueprints, or, like, diplomas, but they don't work out for them in the end. Think he ended up being an electrician. Murph wins are a long shot advance to go, and it's a pro line. He used to love pro line. Well, I don't know if he loved it, but he did it. So that's him winning a pro line. Your stock in coat matures. collect 150 bucks. Birth wipes out in front of hot chick click. Go back 3 spaces, and this actually happened. So, it was winter. So there's the main building, main high school, and then there was a portable building. So we were running, I was chasing them from the portable building to the main building. And it's all full of kittens, all the kids, all full of teenagers. They don't follow teers. And a lot of, a lot of people collect kind of like in the main area. And what happened is the floor was wet. So he was pretty straightforward to these group of girls. And, uh, he tried to dodge them, but because the floor was slippery, he slipped sideways and slid right into them. And they started laughing at him, and they never started laughing at him. And he got up. He, he, he, he couldn't even look up. He was so embarrassed. And I was like, oh, no. That's brutal. So, work that into there. Advance to St. Thomas Place. If you pass, go, click $200. Again, on the football theme, 'cause you love football. They were a football family. Bluff University. Where asked for a student car replacement 15 bucks? So, the story behind this is when he went to Guap University. It was... He had to take his student photo for his, uh, for his card. I think what happened is someone else took over, and they're like, okay, take pictures. It's like, you gotta go back. I'm up against the wall. Well, that's funny. didn't know how to zoom. So I took the picture, it was just the space. Oh, fuck, it was so funny. He just, like, he just looked like his whole face was, like, zoomed in on it. He couldn't see anything else. Oh, we laughed at that. Head on down to John's Buick dealership. If you passcode clicked $100, so that's just him. That never happened. I think it was depicted off for the original Monterofopoli. Murph gets a job, McDonald's, and helps himself to the beverage suspension, thereby saving 100 bucks. He never worked at McDonald's, but me and Gavin did. Birth scores with Nikki, collect 10 bucks. So Nikki was his girlfriend at the time, and I think that's part of the reason why he sort of separated from the group. And I resented that, so that's a quick jab at those two. I think they did actually would do that under a bridge. Park under a bridge. Perth takes the Pepi challenge, Pepsi challenge, and loses. This makes your less... I mean, they're so stupid, though, but you just have to, you had to know it. Murph wins a free sum. Pay us for $100 for stomach pump. So what happened is, he actually won a 6 foot sub, but he was playing in the game. We were playing the game against our rivals, Markham High. I went through Brother Andre Catholic High School, and it was the big event of the year. So it was announced over the PA at the field that James Murphy wins a free sub, and we're like, oh, all right, cool. And the fucking coach had to snap and say, hey, get the... We're trying to win a game here. Forget the sub. And then afterwards, uh, he gave me a foot. He gave me a foot of the sun when he brought her home. He lived like, not even a half a block from the field that we played at. You know, a jail free card, this car may be kept until needed or sold. False alarm. Murph wins first prize in a beauty contest. Collect 20 bucks. That's him in a kilt. You're fucked. Do not pass code. Do not collect $100. Oh, fuck, these are stupid. Murph late with the residence application. Which was true. And we refund them for it. That's him in the TV box, sleeping. Burv Po poses with teen photo after B 8 defeats Markham, Advance to Goat Clay. So what happened this actually happened? That's Murph. And that's my friend Paulo. And he photo bombed them. He wasn't even playing on the team. I was playing on the team. But, uh, Paul, I'm photo bombed them. The photos, I'm sure, is gone by now. So that's, uh, that's what that's rough would say. Earth wins the bet, makes a tackle, collect $50 from each person. Even if the taco was his own player, which was true. That happy tackled some play. Murph loses 12 straight rounds of NFL blitz. Miss your next turn. So him and Gavin were big in NFL blitz. And it was entertaining enough to watch, but I was a fucking idiot back then. Jerome makes Murph and Honoray Black Panther. So Jerome was a friend of Murph's. And we didn't know him all that well, but he's in the he's in the game. So I like this one. Make you forgets to make arrangements for Murr's surprise birthday party, which was true. This actually happened. I don't remember all the details behind it, but I'm pretty sure that was true. Rocky pisses a Murph's shoe, 50 bucks. He actually pissed on Gavin's shoe. His name was Rocky, and he just pissed on everything. You're cut. Hit the showers. You don't have passcode. Do not click $200. Fabrizio gives, for a 20 receipt, $50. So Fabrizio wasn't very smart. So Murph worked at the CNBC branch. for a little while, and this guy named Fabrizio worked there. He also went to school there. So, it's one of those things where you have to keep track of the money, right? So, um, one day, Murph is telling me the story, so one day it's okay, Fabrizio, we retallied up the tolls here. You lost, you lost $20 yesterday and you lost $20 today. So you're out of bounds. And then Fabrizio said, nobody are you talking about? I lost $20 yesterday. I lost $20 today. I bounced. And Murph started laughing. said, no, no, no, no. You lost $20 yesterday. You lost $20 today. That's $40. So you're not bounced. Anyways. Furbitsu is in the game. Murph is discovered by a town agency, collect $200. So this guy, Murph had extraordinarily hairy forearms. We used to make fun of them for it. So that was VO5 hot oil. For those of you who don't know, that's like, uh, it was for hail, hair. care, maintenance, whatever. Patsy requires some routine maintenance, pay 150 bucks. That's a repeat, that one. Murph gets a scholarship, collect 100 bucks, fat bastards, scholarship. That was kind of, like, for a little while, that was the name of our click. Murph gets a picture in the yearbook, receives $25 for refund. So the only pitcher out of all, like, Gavin got it in the in the yearbook one year. But the only year, the only time Murph ended up in the, in the yearbook, was I eating a hamburger? So he laughed. Oh man. It's, you had to be there. You know? And then, like, Coca-Cola Avenue, KOC, Gavin's Honda dealership. I had a Buick, NFL Avenue, Notre Dame, St. Thomas. Maybe I think that was the street that lived on, BA Avenue, law school. I think you wanted to go to law school at one point. York, St. Nick, Nicole, peroxide, 'cause Nicole is the diver hair, my green, and shit like that. Lyons Avenue, Jerome Avenue, Construction Avenue. That's... Perlin. Donald's, my trunk on me. So this took a month. This took a month, and I showed you all the money. Truly all the money. So, yeah, that's Meropoly, really. It's only a funny if, uh, you knew the guy. It's lighthearted, right? It's not meant to be mean, but we left in his face, and he laughed. He couldn't help but laugh too, right? That's just how it was, right? We laugh at each other. We had sense of humours. So anyways, that's Merphopoly. Um... I guess that's it for this, uh, pixel parsley. Stay tuned for more.
